In an era of unprecedented growth in OSS, it is instructive to look back at the evolution of the largest proprietary software company in history to observe its evolution into a company that now explicitly recognizes the importance of OSS to innovation and has [emerged as one of the leading contributors to open source.

In this session, we will discuss Microsoft's evolution to open through purposeful internal process and procedural reform and external actions that have facilitated its migration.

Specifically, its model internal governance program, participation in the Linux Foundation, acquisition of GitHub and membership in the OIN license community will be featured.
