Today, Open Source drives virtually every technology innovation; from cloud computing to AI. Also, this development model is being applied inside the firewall to drive efficiencies, break down silos & increase innovation. Yet, it faces a challenging future. Today, there is a problem of plenty; plenty of creativity, plenty of new projects, plenty of corporate money, plenty of media attention. What is missing is plenty of developers. For e.g., on Github there are 25M repos and 24M total users. Is the pursuit of innovation paradoxically threatening the future of open source?
We will discuss how open source drives innovation, how that model may be infringed upon by the continuing growth in projects and the fragmentation of interests. We’ll discuss some of the common mistakes made today when trying to create new projects and how to avoid them, and industry, corporate and individual solutions.
