A large company employing thousands of software developers worldwide faces many challenges to consistently manage its processes for releasing software under open source licenses. Open source knowledge and expertise often varies dramatically across business verticals, as does understanding of how open source communities function. What can a large company do to ensure certain degrees of cohesion and competency are reflected across its diverse open source offerings?
This talk will detail some of our experiences with developing and refining corporate-wide practices that address open source project best known methods and are designed to be transparent, repeatable, and scalable. We will describe the evolution of a number of such processes, from inception to present day to planned future enhancements.
