To overcome the challenge of the diversity of Open Source license obligations led to the OSADL Open Source License Obligations Checklists project. It aims (i) to translate obligations into semantic elements and (ii) to establish a common understanding of them.
(i) Creating the checklists
A vocabulary was defined and used to translate about 60 Open Source licenses into checklists with use cases. The compatibilities of the licenses with each other and with typical and individual proprietary licenses were evaluated and can be added to the list, respectively.
(ii) Obtaining approval
Aiming to integrate review by international legal experts, each checklist item is referenced to and highlighted in the related original license text.
The presentation consists of two parts: First, methods and procedures of creating and maintaining the checklists are explained and second, their use is exemplified.
