What happens to an open source project after its initial release? Who ensures that it continues to grow and mature? When do you decide to double down on promising projects to support their growth and who will make the difficult decision to stop supporting projects which did not deliver on their promise?

As a company, heavily engaged in producing and releasing open source, Zalando have been wrestling with the question on how to best spend our limited resources and time - this talk will present our work on a framework of maturity metrics and tooling which we apply to our project portfolio to guide our decision making on which projects to double down on and which to consider ending.

It helps us to understand and act on the full lifecycle of our open source projects, no matter if the project is just getting started, is maturing or is in a declining state
